Rotating Utensil Caddy

I had the pleasure to design this product during my internship at Progressive International. Our client Princess House requested a large utensil caddy to go in their Culinario Series. Working alongside experienced Industrial Designers, I extensively researched competitor products to specify volume and size, and also researched Princess House products to define style and materials. After exploring different design directions, we decided on one concept to do more testing and refining before manufacturing stage.

Company - Progressive International
Client - Princess House
My Role - Market Research, Ideation, 3D Modeling, Rendering, Prototype Testing, Photography

What I learned from Research

  • it is difficult to organize all the utensils in one compartment
  • short utensils can easily get buried in long ones - hard to access
  • long utensils flare and may fall out due to a shallow caddy
  • caddy may tip over if tools are too heavy on one side
  • dividers can get in the way of tools with large handles
  • marketing sticker leaves permanent ugly residue - yuck :)
